This is an Ultra Low Loss Marine Grade coaxial cable designed to be used for all shipboard radios and scanners where reliability and Ultra Low Loss cable is required. Made in the U.S.A. to the highest standards. MPD Digital coaxial cable (coax) is designed to transfer your radio transmitter's energy to your antenna with as little loss as possible. It is precisely made, with the correct impedance for Marine VHF and AIS installations. We offer 2 kinds of 50-ohm coax cable for VHF radio installations: RG-8X, and LMR400, the Ultra Low Loss Marine Cable. Use the largest coax you can fit to reduce signal loss. Here is the reason: Almost all VHF radios start with about 25 watts of transmit power. As soon as the signal starts down the coax cable, it begins to lose strength. This loss is measured in db. High gain antennas cannot recover this lost energy, but they can focus the remaining energy across the water so you come through with as much punch as possible. We Do NOT recommend RG-58 for Marine Radio installations. RG-8x is just a fraction larger and just as flexible with Much Lower Loss. Bigger coax reduces signal losses between the radio and the antenna, which increases power at the antenna. MPD Digital manufactures cable assemblies for Amazon.com, OEMs and Individual users. We can customize cables for any RF use and will be happy to list any cable on Amazon on request. All cables are manufactured under MPD Digital Trade Marks and Pending Applicable Patents. | RG-58 CB Radio cable | RG-8x Marine Antenna Coax | Ultra Low Loss 400 Marine cables | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coax Signal Retention and Shielding | Not recommended for Marine installs | 34% less loss and Better Signal than RG-58 Coax | Lowest Loss of Any flexible antenna cable |
| Ease of Installation and Flexibility | Very flexible and easy to run | SAME Flexibility as RG-58 - .240 inches diameter | Thicker Jacket and less flex but will turn 90 degrees in 2 inches |
| Cable Loss Per Foot in Longer Runs | Made for signals below 100 MHz - Marine Bands have higher loss | Good signal retention - best compromise for flexibility and loss | Ultra Low Loss - Maximum signal strength and greatest propagation |
